Deep into the bush -- Timothée & Kai Lin

I’ve been thinking on how I could turn the idea of hairy shapes in term of space. I focused my attention to the bushes: usually, they look very dense from the outside but in fact the middle is clear and sometimes there is a bigger plant inside, working as a structure, supporting it. The thickness of the external skin may also provide further interesting developments.

I’ve been taking inspiration in hairy and spiky flowers found in the bushes on my way to school to model flower-like shapes. The first flower (upper left corner) is in itself a kind of bush supported by an internal structure.

I tried to model something like a dome made with this bush-like skin with a clear space inside, supported by a bigger structure. I’m not really happy with nature-like geometry. I want to find a way to design something more abstract and not centred around a middle pole like that.

This is something different, a surface with hair growing on it.

  1. nice approach,
but if you think about a hairy or better yet fibrous condition, you should avoid the crystalline structures.
At the moment your design resembles hair on a visual level (because of the excessive amount)

what do you think about this approach
it was a interesting approach of a former student, unfortunately she didn't investigate its further potentials. the 3D printed model was stunning and beautiful

she used one string and then animated the same component by doing so deforming it but kept all instances

    ... give it a try... ;)
